$100K Reward Offered In Slaying Of Grosse Pointe Farms Teen
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) — A $100,000 reward is being offered for information that solves the fatal shooting of a Grosse Pointe Farms teen who was killed in Detroit.
Three other teens were also injured by gunfire while sitting in a car on Detroit's east side last week. The reward was announced Monday by police and the head of the Detroit Crime Commission, a private agency that serves as a liaison between the public and law enforcement.
Commissioner director Andy Arena says the money is coming from families that know the victims. They don't want to be identified. Arena, a former FBI agent, says it's one of the largest rewards he's seen.
Sixteen-year-old Paige Stalker was killed on Dec. 22 when a gunman sprayed the car with at least 30 shots.
Three others — a 16-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl — suffered gunshot wounds. A 15-year-old girl who was uninjured in the gunfire jumped into the driver's seat and drove her friends to a nearby hospital.
Birmingham-based attorney and long-time Grosse Pointe resident Thomas Guastello increased the original reward money on Saturday from $5,000 to $10,000.
Police are searching for the gunman, described as a black male about 6-feet tall, wearing a bulletproof vest and army fatigues.
