$100,000 Reward Offered In Case Of Missing MSU Student
LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Officials hope a $100,000 reward will help solve the disappearance and suspected slaying of a Michigan State University student who has been missing for five years.
Krista Lueth, 34, was last seen the evening of Nov. 11, 2008, at the house she rented in Lansing, and the case is being investigated as a possible homicide. She was pursuing a second bachelor's degree in horticulture and had attended classes at the East Lansing school earlier that day.
"I feel there is someone out there that has info about Krista Lueth's homicide. I really do," state police Detective Sgt. Tom DeClercq told WLNS-TV. "This [reward] will hopefully push them over the top to provide info necessary."
When Lueth left her house between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. that day, the Lansing State Journal reported that she locked the door, leaving a pan of food on the stove covered by a plate. She didn't attend her 6:30 p.m. class at a greenhouse about a half-mile away.
"She was excited about her moving on with her life, finishing her studies at MSU, moving to New York for her master's degree," DeClercq said.
Her credit cards and phone weren't being used after she disappeared, officials said, and she didn't reach out to contact family members. Investigators have said they don't believe her disappearance was a random act.
Officials on Wednesday announced details of the reward, which was made possible by an anonymous donor, through Crime Stoppers of Mid-Michigan. It's being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for Leuth's disappearance or death.
Roy Lueth of St. Clair, said he wants the person responsible for his daughter's disappearance "off the streets."
