10-Year-Old Girl Attacked At Proud Lake
COMMERCE TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities are looking for a man who tried to sexually assault a 10-year-old girl at a state recreation area in Oakland County, Sunday afternoon.
The sheriff's department said the girl was walking with a friend back to their family's picnic site at Proud Lake Recreation Area in Commerce Township, about 25 miles northwest of Detroit, when she was attacked.
The man allegedly grabbed the girl and pulled her to the ground and tried to pull her pants down. Police said the girl's friend, also 10-years-old, tried to stop the man; he slapped her and then ran off.
The girls immediately told their parents, who called 9-1-1. Sheriff's deputies conducted an extensive search of the trails, picnic areas and buildings for the man, but found nothing.
The suspect is described as a white male, with brown hair, possibly in his 20's, wearing a white T-shirt with black print, blue jean shorts and tennis shoes.
A $1,000 CrimeStoppers reward and an additional reward of $1,000 from the victim's family is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Anyone who knows anything is asked to call the Oakland County Sheriff's Department or 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
