"Turn Yourself In" Pleads Family Of 10-Year-Old Boy Killed In Hit And Run
DETROIT (WWJ) - "Please turn yourself in." That plea coming from the grieving parents of a 10-year-old boy, killed by a hit-and-run driver on Detroit's east side.
Police say that around 1 p.m. on Sunday, a pickup truck went off the pavement in the area of 8 Mile and Kelly and struck the boy as he was taking out the trash. It's not clear why the truck went off the road, but after leaving the scene, authorities say the driver stopped a block away to remove the trash can lodged under his truck and then took off again.
Police have witnesses, but the driver, described as a white male, about 40 years old, remains at large. He was driving a red pickup truck, possibly a Dodge, that may have had a snowplow on the front.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 SPEAK UP.
