10 Embarrassing MLB Player Injuries
Throughout the course of the 162 game baseball season, players will often miss a couple of games, land on the DL or simply just be given a day off due to a variety of reasons.
However, MLB players have been known to be a little bit "whimpy" when it comes to injuries and that's hard to defend when you hear of NHL and NFL players playing with collapsed lungs, broken legs, wrists, noses and jaws.
Granted, MLB players play the longest season and have games almost everyday, but some of the injuries that have caused players to miss games are hilarious. Take a look at the list, that we here at CBS Local Sports, think are the funniest and most embarrassing MLB player injuries.
1. Matt Cain, P, San Francisco Giants
Cain missed a start back in April of this year because he cut the tip of his finger while making "triangle" sandwiches. I don't know what's funnier. That he missed a start because of this or because he eats sandwiches like he is still in the 3rd grade?
2. Mark Teixeira, 1B, New York Yankees
A week ago, after playing in just 22 games, Mark Teixeira needed a day off because his legs were tired after being on base too much. Can you imagine an NHL player saying this?
3. Joel Zumaya, P, Detroit Tigers
Back in 2006, Zumaya missed three games after hurting his wrist playing Guitar Hero. This guy clearly has his priorities straight ...
4. Marty Cordova, OF, Baltimore Orioles
In 2002, Cordova was forced to miss a few games because he fell asleep in a tanning bed and got sunburned. Imagine the injury report. Day-to-day: sunburn. This has got to be the most embarrassing injury of all time ...
5. Sammy Sosa, OF, Chicago Cubs
Sosa missed a game in 2004 due to back spasms caused by a sneeze. A SNEEZE? Somebody get this man a Claritin and stat!
6. Wade Boggs, 3B, Boston Red Sox
During the 1986 season Boggs bruised his ribs while trying to put on his cowboy boots. Can't fault a guy for putting his best foot forward ... Give it all you got, Wade!
7. Brandon Inge, 3B, Detroit Tigers
You'll never guess the reason behind Brandon Inge's DL stint back in 2008. Any guesses? You weren't even close. The reason? A strained oblique due to fluffing his son's pillow. Fluffing a pillow? Really?
8. Rickey Henderson, OF
Henderson once missed a few games back in the day after falling asleep on an ice pack and got frostbite ... in August! HOW LONG WERE YOU ASLEEP FOR, BRO?!
9. Greg Harris, P, Texas Rangers
Harris strained his elbow while flicking Sunflower Seeds into the stands from the dugout. Do your team a favor and the next time you are bored, knit a sweater or blow some bubbles.
