1 Man Charged In Fatal Stabbing While Police Search For Second Suspect
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ/AP) -- A suspect in Saturday's fatal stabbing in Mount Clemens was formally charged Monday while another remains on the run.
DeAndre Arnold, 18, was charged with felony murder in the death of Alexander Burkart. Lieutenant John Michalke with the Macomb County Sheriff's office said that detectives were able to identify suspects quickly.
"Detectives were able to look at the surveillance images and they were able to identify the two individuals that were in this altercation with the driver of the Dakota pickup," Michalke said.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham says his deputies discovered a pickup that had hit a pole behind a business in Mount Clemens about 8:20 p.m. Saturday.
The sheriff says in a statement that 22-year-old Alexander W. Burkart of Mount Clemens was in the driver's seat with a stab wound to the chest.
"Mr. Burkart was at a gas station on northbound Gratiot – he pulled his vehicle from the gas station behind the building, we were able to see two subjects walk over to the vehicle. Mr. Burkart exited his vehicle and there was an altercation at which point we believe he was stabbed," said Wickersham.
Burkart was trying to escape the two attackers when he crashed his vehicle into a light pole shortly after the altercation.
Arnold remains held without bond. Police are still looking for Jayvon Cates of Mount Clemens, who they say was also involved in the stabbing.
