1 Killed, 3 Injured In Chain Reaction Crash On I-75
TROY (WWJ) - Police say one person was killed and three others were injured when one vehicle rear-ended another on I-75, setting off a chain reaction crash.
The accident happened just after 11 p.m. Friday on northbound I-75 near Maple Road in Troy.
According to police, a pickup truck was traveling in the right lane when it was rear-ended by a sedan. The impact caused the truck to veer left and cross over into the left lane, where it was struck a second time by another pickup truck.
The first truck then veered into the median ditch, where it rolled over and came to a stop. The sedan and the other truck both stopped along the shoulder.
The driver of the first truck was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital in good condition. A passenger in the truck was declared dead at the scene.
The driver and a passenger in the second pickup truck were both transported to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital with various injuries and were last reported in good condition.
The driver of the sedan was treated and released from Troy Beaumont Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation. Police say it's not yet clear if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Names of those involved were not immediately released.
The freeway was shut down for about four hours while police investigated but has since reopened.
