1 Dead, 9 Injured In Crash Between Car, 12 Motorcycles
TOWN OF TAYCHEEDAH, Wis. (WWJ/AP) - Investigators in eastern Wisconsin are trying to find out why a car crossed into the path of a dozen motorcycles, killing one person and injuring nine others.
Fond du Lac County sheriff's officials say the crash happened on Highway 151 in the Town of Taycheedah Thursday afternoon. Sheriff's Capt. Dean Will tells WLUK-TV the group of motorcyclists were on an extended ride and headed back home to Michigan.
Will says the car, driven by a 25-year-old Hilbert, Wis. man, crossed over the center line and hit ten of the motorcycles. One of the motorcyclists died. Three of the nine bikers hurt were critically injured and airlifted to a Neenah hospital. The rest were taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
Sheriff's officials say motorcyclists involved in the crash are all from Muskegon County. Police say 59-year-old Daniel Winsemius, of Twin Lake, was killed in the crash.
Five motorcyclists remain hospitalized. They include 52-year-old Eric Vandam, 58-year-old Douglas Williams, 43-year-old Douglas Yonkers, 52-year-old Garry Ferris and 59-year-old Leland Johnson, all of Muskegon. Vandam, Willliams and Yonkers are in critical condition.
