Woman Who Allegedly Made Up Stabbing Story Formally Charged

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (CBS4) - A mother who claimed she and her child were stabbed on a bike path is facing charges after police say she made the story up.

Stephany Harwood went before a judge Friday and was told she's charged with reckless child abuse.

Last month Harwood told police a man stabbed her on the Clear Creek greenbelt path near 48th and Otis in Wheat Ridge. She was stabbed in the leg and her son in the stomach.

Police say Harwood tried to pin the crime on someone else. She remains in jail on a $100,000 bond.
