Large Fire Erupts At Westminster Apartment Building; Federal Blvd. Partially Closed
WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - Westminster firefighters managed to get a large apartment fire under control Friday afternoon. They, and several other agencies, responded to the homes near Federal Boulevard and 92nd Avenue.
Firefighters were able to initially get inside, but had to move back outside because of the volume of the fire. Police officers worked to evacuate residents.
Firefighters managed to search the entire building and say no one was inside.
Fire officials say all three levels of a building are affected, and the building sustained heavy damage. As of 5 p.m., 24 units were involved in the fire.
Crews are still on the scene working on hot spots.
Firefighters say there was a report of an explosion on the first floor, but they have not found evidence of that yet.
No injuries have thus far been reported. It's also not clear how the fire started.
Part of Federal Boulevard was closed for first responders, but reopened at around 7 p.m.
Crews are expected to be at the scene for several hours. The American Red Cross is now on scene to help the residents displaced.
