1 Home Destroyed, 2 Damaged In Explosion in Westminster Neighborhood
UPDATE: Cadaver Dogs Find Possible Human Remains At Westminster House Explosion
WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - Westminster Fire Department responded to an explosion that destroyed a home and damaged two others on Knox Court early Tuesday morning.
According to Westminster FD, reports for the explosion were received just before 2:40 a.m. in the 7700 block of Knox Court, and firefighters were on scene of the explosion roughly 15 minutes later, where one home was completely destroyed. The homeowner was not there during the time of the explosion, but it's unknown if anyone else was inside at this time. Two other homes had damages, and there was no report of injuries due to the explosion for any of the homes involved.
Multiple vehicles near the explosion were also damaged.
Home surveillance video from a neighbor shows the force of impact sending debris all over the property.
Xcel Energy also responded to the scene because the explosion caused at least two confirmed gas leaks in the area.
Westminster police officers evacuated surrounding homes out of safety precaution. Crews had utilities sunder control around 5:15 a.m., and evacuated neighbors were able to go back to their homes.
Adams County Fire Rescue assisted crews in the response to the explosion on Knox Ct.
Investigators are searching for the cause. Crews will likely be on scene all day due to the extent of the damage.
