LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Lakewood are searching for a man wanted for causing nearly $20,000 worth of damage in the Belmar area.

Police say early Wednesday morning the suspect used a tool to scratch unreadable scribble on 10 windows of different businesses in the Belmar Shopping Center.

The vandal also scratched the glass in front of an ATM camera that took his picture.

"What we're hoping is to see if anybody might recognize the person that was shown in the photos," Steve Hipwell with Lakewood police said.

Police are puzzled by the scribbles.

"We're not sure if they're letters, we're not sure if they're some type of a symbol or what it is, so that's kind of the mystery here is we don't know exactly what this person was intending to express by doing this, but we do know he damaged a lot of property," Hipwell said.

The suspect is described as a white male, 20 to 30 years old, 5-foot-10 with a thin build and wearing a black hoodie.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lakewood police at 303-987-7111.
