USS Mustin Among Ships Helping Out In Japan
DENVER (CBS4) - President Obama has promised to give Japan all the aid it needs, and that includes help from the U.S. military.
Among the ships being sent to the area is the USS Mustin. The destroyer is named after the father of CBS4's Tom Mustin and three other of his family members. CBS4 covered the ships' commissioning back in 2003.
The Mustin has joined the Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group. The captain of the ship, Cdr. Scott Tait, sent the Mustin family an e-mail saying the ship will send two helicopters and provide 20,000 gallons of fresh water a day to Japan.
On Monday the Mustin and other members of the strike group were ordered to move farther away from the coast after the leaking radiation was detected onshore.
