MLB Umpires Visit Young Patients At Rocky Mountain Hospital For Children
DENVER (CBS4) - Three Major League Baseball umpires along with the Colorado Rockies mascot Dinger made a visit to Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children on Tuesday.
The umps gave young patients stuffed animals and words of encouragement to the children fighting serious illness and injuries.
It was part of an MLB nonprofit called UMPS CARE Charities that works to better the lives of children. The umps say although their visit is a small gesture, it matters.
"Just to brighten their day for a little bit, and then also ... the parents, just to take 30 seconds to a minute out of their day of just not thinking about hospital affairs and just talking to umpires about the game the night before," said Paul Emmel, and 17-year veteran MLB umpire.
After their visit the umps and Dinger went to work at Coors Field for the game between the Rockies and the Tampa Bay Rays.
