Travis Forbes' Lawyers Want Crime Scene Preserved
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - Lawyers for Travis Forbes want to make sure the crime scene is preserved.
Forbes was back in court Tuesday. He's accused of sexually assaulting a woman, then trying to kill her by setting her Fort Collins apartment on fire.
Defense attorneys say they haven't had the chance to see the scene for themselves yet. There is still police tape on the door of the burned out apartment.
In court on Tuesday the public defender asked the judge for an order to make sure the scene is preserved until Forbes' defense team has a chance to get inside and see it for themselves.
In court Forbes told the judge he wanted to waive the requirement of a speedy preliminary hearing. That's quite standard as attorneys start working to put together his defense.
Police say the woman was assaulted before the attacker set the apartment on fire and the victim had to leap from a second floor window. The court file in the case has been sealed from the public, so the evidence police used to make the case against Forbes isn't known.
Prosecutors announced the charges they've filed in the case on Tuesday. They include attempted first-degree murder, three counts of sexual assault, first-degree assault, arson, violent crime, theft of a motor vehicle, and false reporting.
The victim was originally reported to be in critical condition and was unable to speak to investigators. Now the hospital is not giving updates on her condition, presumably at the request of her family.
Forbes next court hearing is set for next month.
