Traffic Accident Results In Death Of Motorcyclist

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - A 52-year-old male motorcycle rider from Commerce City was killed when a car struck him on Highway 2 on Friday.

The Commerce City Police Department responded to an injury accident in the 7300 block of State Highway 2 around 3 p.m.

A white Dodge Neon was traveling southbound on Highway 2 when it lost control and collided with a northbound black Yamaha motorcycle.

The 16-year-old female driver of the vehicle was transported to Denver Health Medical Center with critical injuries and remains in serious condition.

Two 16-year-old male passengers were transported to Children's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and remain in serious condition.

A fourth occupant, an 18-year-old female, was treated for minor injuries and released.

The motorcycle rider was transported to Denver Health Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities say all of the people in the vehicle are students at Adams City High School.

The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released.

According to police, alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash.

"I'm not able to release exactly how we know that information but I can tell you we're confident that alcohol is a factor in this accident," Commerce City Police Chief Troy Smith said.
