Too Much Water Closes Glenwood Canyon Bike Path

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- Just days after it opened for the season, Glenwood Canyon Bike Path closed because of too much water.

The Colorado Department of Transportation closed Glenwood Canyon Bike Path on Tuesday because of flooding. CDOT opened the final section of the bike path for the season on May 5.

Glenwood Canyon Bike Path is closed each winter when winter maintenance activities on Interstate 70 can create unsafe conditions on the path. CDOT periodically closes the path for safety reasons depending on late spring snow and high water.

There is no estimate on when the bike path will reopen.

Emergency management officials in Summit County are concerned that record snowpack will result in flooding once the spring runoff begins.
