Mobile Home Fire In Thornton Started In Kitchen

THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4)- Firefighters said the fire that gutted a mobile home in Thornton Tuesday afternoon started in the kitchen.

A body was found inside the burned mobile home. The identity of the person who died in the fire has not been released. Police are investigating the cause of death.

"We asked our neighbor what was going on and he said that the house exploded and we asked him if there was anything in there. They said that there was an old lady in there and they tried to get her out but couldn't," said neighbor Jhoana Rojo.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but only after it had destroyed the home.

Copter4 flew over the fire on Riverdale Road near the Adams County Fairgrounds just after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Plumes of smoke could be seen from miles away.

Witnesses reported hearing minor explosions. In addition to the body found inside, two people who lived in the home were rushed to a hospital with minor injuries.
