Thieves Smash Truck Into JCPenney Entrance
By Jamie Leary
LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4) - Some crooks went to a lot of effort to break into a JCPenney store at the Southwest Plaza Mall. The stolen truck they used has been found but the suspects remain on the run.
According to Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies, a red truck backed into one of the entrances of the department store, four men jumped out, grabbed clothing, jewelry and electronics, and then took off.
The suspects may have gotten away without a trace but they crashed the truck into a pole outside of an apartment complex in Lakewood.
The truck in the smash-and-grab was found by Lakewood police near Sheridan Boulevard and Yale Avenue.
A witness told police he saw three suspects run from the truck and into the apartment complex. Surveillance from the complex gave police enough information to target one particular unit and secure a search warrant.
At last check, Jefferson County investigators were searching the unit to see if they could find any sign of the suspects or stolen items.
