Temporary Housing For Oil Workers In Weld County May Be Moved

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4)- Men searching for a job with the growing oil industry in Weld County are finding housing in what's called a "Man Camp." But the county is saying it's time to go.

The camp consists of a group of trailers off East 27th Street near Greeley. They house men from across the nation who work on oil rigs.

"It's living quarters for oil field workers," said RV park owner Marlin Ness.

Those workers may have to look for new housing.

"My son got a letter and said that we need to come in for meetings because we're in violation," said Ness.

Weld County Commissioners claim the so-called man camps are not zoned to be in an RV only park.

Commissioners said they've received complaints that the camp has overflowed sewers among other concerns. They're giving Ness six months to apply for re-zoning or give up the man camp.

Ness said the paperwork, time and money isn't something he wants to bother with.

"If for some reason the oil companies pulled out then I spent a lot of money for something that, in other words, I would have spent a lot of money for zoning that I no longer need," said Ness.

Commissioners said they are reviewing their regulations regarding man camps.
