Tavern Offers Free Drink To Patrons For Leaving Car Overnight

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4)- A tavern in Greeley gave away free drink coupons to patrons who couldn't get behind the wheel as a way to thank them for not drinking and driving.

The Tavern at St. Michael's Square placed the coupons on cars parked overnight in their parking lot which read, "We want to take this moment to let you know we noticed you left your car at The Tavern at St. Michael's Square tonight. In honor of your commitment to the safety of our community, we would like to present you with this coupon for $5 toward your first drink on your next trip in. Thank you for being such an amazing person and not driving home tonight!"

The Tavern's general manager, Toni Patrick, said they began using the coupons in May 2015 as a thank you to customers who they believe drank responsibly.

"The coupon incentive is key," said Patrick.

She said repeat customers might disregard a simple thank you note over time, but the coupon is more of a continual reward each time they leave their car.

"Some bar patrons feel guilty or worry that their car might get towed. We want to encourage customers to have a great time while they are here and help to make sure that their night ends just as well," said Patrick.

The idea of thanking customers for leaving their car and giving them a free drink has gotten response from as far away as England.
