'Swiping Right' On Dating App Leads To Alleged Sex Assault
DENVER (CBS4) - A man was arrested in Denver on accusations of raping a woman he met on a dating app. Prosecutors say his online behavior was fine, but what happened after has them concerned that other women may have been victimized.
A 22 year-old woman found Darren Auger, 27, on Tinder, and swiped right, indicating she was interested in his profile.
After a week of texting, the two met for sushi on June 9 and walked dogs in Washington Park. She invited Auger back and they started making out, but that's where it was supposed to stop.
The victim said she didn't want to have sex. Police reports say Auger forced himself on her and said, "a lot of girls say no but they like it afterward."
"Because of the nature of these allegations, the possibility is there that there could be other victims," said Lynn Kimbrough of the Denver District Attorney's Office.
Auger was charged with sexual assault, a felony charge that district attorneys don't usually release to the press, but what the victim told police has investigators concerned others may need to come forward.
"Maybe there are young women who didn't realize that they were a victim ... that upon reflection they'll realize that perhaps they did say no, and that didn't stop the assault," said Kimbrough.
Auger remains in custody on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday to be formally advised of the charge.
