Suspects Wanted In Jewelry Store Robbery May Have Been Arrested In California
DENVER (CBS4)- Five people arrested in California after a high-speed chase may have been involved in a jewelry store robbery in Cherry Creek North.
Williams Jewelers at East 3rd Avenue and Fillmore Street was robbed Tuesday morning.
Police say a woman who acted like she was a customer came inside the store after being buzzed in by employees. In the process she allowed three men inside with her.
The group then robbed the store, taking an undisclosed amount of jewelry after smashing display cases.
The group left the store, got in a red or maroon SUV and then left. The vehicle was found ditched a few blocks away on Clayton Street.
On Wednesday, suspects led police on a 30-mile chase from Sacramento to San Francisco. Officers used spike strips to end the chase. Investigators are trying to figure out whether the crime spree began in Colorado.
"We have multiple agencies that are involved throughout various jurisdictions, so there might be more than meets the eye here," said Colorado Highway Patrol Officer John Fransen.
Sacramento Police said the car reached speeds of 120 miles per hour before ending in a crash. Police took five suspects into custody, Anthony Dewayne Domino,
Sharde Shenay Suwannabart-Smith, Sean Donyell McCullough II, Summer Pavielle Sawyer, and Anthony James Tyree.
"They did a search of my backyard, they had their guns all pulled out. I'm like... freaking out," said witness Tanya Smith-Martinez.
The FBI confirms it has agents investigating the case. Denver Police also confirm they've handed over the investigation into the suspects at the Williams Jewelers robbery to the FBI.
The FBI has yet to confirm whether the five suspects are connected to the Denver case.
