Suspect In Stun Gun Assault On Woman Tells His Side Of Story
DENVER (CBS4) - The man accused of using a stun gun on a woman to drag her into an alley talked only to CBS4 on Monday.
The attack happened last month near South Broadway and Illif in Denver. Clifton Ray Williams, 37, was arrested late last week in Castle Rock. CBS4's Valerie Castro talked to Williams in jail. He wanted people to hear his side of the story.
On Monday the Denver district attorney formally filed charges of second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault against Williams.
Williams admitted to trying to use a stun gun on the victim, but he says he was the real victim in the incident.
"I guess I've been all over the news portrayed as a sexual predator, if you will, which I am not, I am not," Williams told Castro. "I made a mistake by getting high and looking for sex the wrong way. Someone took that $100 bill from me and if anything happened here crime wise, it's theft."
Williams says he was high on ecstasy and looking for a prostitute when he found a woman on South Broadway. He gave her $100 in exchange for sex, but when the woman spotted his stun gun in the car, she had a request.
"She said, 'What if I wanted you to use it on (me)?' Or something like that. And I said, 'I'm not into violent sex,'" Williams said.
Refusing to use the stun gun on her, Williams says the woman left with his money.
"It's theft by her and that's all I wanted at that point was my money back."
In surveillance video from a nearby business, Williams can be seen struggling with a woman. Police say the bright flashes are from a stun gun. Williams admits to trying to use the stun gun on the woman to get his cash back but says the stun gun wasn't working properly.
"I did see it flash at one point and then I tried again and it didn't seem to work at all."
The woman eventually ran away and Williams ran back to his car. While he doesn't care about the money anymore, he says he does care about his reputation.
"I just really want my name cleared, this is not me and I want people to know that."
According to the arrest affidavit, police believe Williams attacked the woman from behind, assaulted her with a stun gun, and then tried to drag her in to an alley.
Williams says the stun gun is something he keeps with him for protection. He's being held on a $100,000 bond.
