'Sunrise Bandit' Arrested In Grocery Store Robbery Cases

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Arvada arrested a man they believe is the so-called "Sunrise Bandit."

William Spraggins of Arvada was arrested Tuesday afternoon. Police contacted him during a traffic stop in the area of 64th Avenue and Quail Street.

Spraggins, 41, was taken into custody after fighting with officers. He did have a weapon when he was arrested.

Police believe Spraggins robbed a King Soopers store at 12350 W. 64rh Ave. on Jan. 7, a King Soopers store at 9731 W. 58th Ave. on Jan. 12 and a Ralston Food Mart at 10440 W. 64th Ave. on Jan. 23.

In all robberies he allegedly approached clerks and demanded money after displaying a handgun. In some surveillance photos he is seen pointing a gun at the clerk.

Spraggins remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail and faces three counts of aggravated robbery along with other charges.

He was dubbed the "Sunrise Bandit" because the robberies occurred early in the morning.
