SunPower Announces New Solar Plant In Southern Colorado
ALAMOSA, Colo. (AP) - SunPower Corp. plans to double its solar power generating capacity in the San Luis Valley with a new 50-megawatt solar power plant.
The San Jose, California-based company Tuesday announced it has signed a power purchase agreement with Xcel Energy to build the new photovoltaic power plant. SunPower already operates the 30-megawatt San Luis Valley Solar Ranch and the 19-megawatt Greater Sandhill plant.
Construction of the new plant on a 320-acre site is expected to begin next year once permits, financing and other details are worked out.
When completed in 2016, the new power plant will provide Xcel Energy with enough electricity to serve approximately 13,500 average Colorado homes.
