Students Return To School In Longmont
LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4)- Some students from Lyons headed back to class in Longmont on Thursday as they returned to school for the first time since last week's devastating floods.
The floods did not damage Twin Peaks Charter School. Some of those students were from flood-ravaged areas like Lyons and Jamestown.
The staff is anxious to welcome these students as their own.
"I think the kids will be overwhelmingly excited to be back in school and happy that everyone's safe," said Twin Peaks Charter Academy President Kathy Dematteo.
"We're here as a community and although it was a tragic event I feel like the community is really uniting and we're excited to have our kids back," said Twin Peaks Charter Academy Asst. Principal Danielle Feeney.
The school district said the five days of missed classes will have to be made up somehow either through vacation days or extending the school year.
