State Lawmakers Nowhere Close On New Congress Maps

DENVER (AP) - Colorado lawmakers seem no closer to agreement on new congressional districts as the session ticks into its final days with both Democrats and Republicans standing their ground.

Republicans proposed a new set of congressional boundaries Tuesday that closely resemble their failed proposals made earlier this session. Democrats have already done the same.

The GOP largely wants to keep congressional boundaries similar to what they are today, keeping most incumbents safe. Democrats have suggested dramatically different lines for the state's seven districts to make them more competitive for either party.

Republicans control the House, and Democrats control the Senate. The partisan divide has many suspecting the legal requirement of new district lines after every census will likely end up in court.
