Standley Lake High Wins PeaceJam Award
WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4)- A group of students at Standley Lake High School has been awarded a prestigious honor from PeaceJam.
Some students at the Westminster school started a program called "Day Without Hate" that addresses school bullying, violence and tolerance.
That program was recognized and won the PeaceJam Global Call to Action Award.
PeaceJam is an international youth leadership program that has Nobel Peace laureates mentoring students to improve their communities and the world.
"We are just so thrilled to have you all be the awardees for the impact that you've had since 2007, you started with 12 students who needed to do something. And last year alone you had 120,000 students participate in a day without hate," said PeaceJam Foundation spokeswoman Kate Cumbo.
The students will officially receive their award Nov. 12 when Nobel Peace Laureate Betty Williams speaks at the PeaceJam luncheon in Denver. She will also visit Standley Lake High School.
