Sources: Holmes Psychiatrist Made Contact With Campus Police

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Sources close to the investigation of the mass shooting at an Aurora movie theater on July 20 have confirmed to CBS4 news that the psychiatrist for suspect James Holmes went to University of Colorado police about her patient prior to the massacre.

So far it's not clear whether Lynne Fenton told police something about Holmes or if she merely wanted a background check on him.

The University of Colorado has hired Robert Miller, a former U.S. attorney, to conduct an internal review after the shooting in an effort to better understand the procedures and actions taken by the university and its employees in relation to Holmes. Holmes is a former student on the university's Anschutz Medical Campus. He left the neuroscience graduate program in June after enrolling last year.

Holmes , 24, was arrested behind the Century 16 theater where 12 people were killed and 58 injured during a midnight showing of the new Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises." He faces 24 counts of first degree murder and 116 counts of attempted murder.
