Some Surprised They Had School, Some Surprised They Didn't
DENVER (CBS4) - Some students woke up surprised that they had school on Wednesday.
At Evergreen Middle School parents dropped off their children. Many were late and there are differing opinions on whether there should have been class in Jefferson County.
"Really? School? It's kind of dangerous to try to get your children to school," parent Sally Armitage said.
"We're kind of used to it. We get this most winters and a lot of times when it's over 12 inches we don't get a snow day," a student told CBS4.
Denver Public Schools were all in session. Many students were grumbling, but in other districts around the metro area that were closed, there were parents grumbling about that. The snow-covered school buses never left the parking lot at district headquarters for Cherry Creek Schools.
"I personally didn't think closing school was necessary," a parent said.
While the sledding was great, parents forced to take the day off work thought the roads and conditions didn't warrant school cancellations.
"I was very surprised they got the day off. I thought they should be in school today," another parent said.
Still school districts are forced to make a decision hours before the school day begins.
"I think it's very hard to be superintendent of schools and decide whether to get school off or not," the parent said.
Students assured CBS4's Suzanne McCarroll that the snow day was a necessity.
"Our brains need a break from school sometimes," a boy said.
It's probably safe to say metro area schools will all be in session on Thursday.
