Some Scots In Denver Split On Independence Vote
DENVER (CBS4) - As Scots head to the polls to decide whether to split from the United Kingdom, Scottish families living in Denver were torn themselves on the issue Thursday.
"It's been very close in my heart for a long time," said Henry Szuster, who is in favor of independence. "The Scottish way of doing things is different than the English way of doing things."
But Denver resident Tom Philand said Scotland would not be better if it left the UK because its economy and defense systems are weaker.
"I'm of the opinion it's a mistake if Scotland leaves the union," he said. "I think it's nationalist pride run amok."
Early voting results Thursday showed the campaign to keep Scotland part of the UK was winning, with a 54 percent to 46 percent split in some parts of central Scotland. Full results aren't expected until later Friday.
