Some Denver Police Officers Wearing Body Cameras While On Patrol
DENVER (CBS4)- Some police officers in the Denver Police Department are wearing body cameras while on patrol. Officers in District 6, Traffic Operations and the Gang Unit are among the first in the department to receive the high tech equipment.
Officers began receiving their body cameras this week. Which video the public will be able to access depends on the circumstances.
"We recognize that there is some video out there that is important for the public to see. Video from critical incidents, officer-involved shootings, that's the kind of video that we recognize that the community has an interest in seeing," said Department of Safety spokeswoman Mary Dulacki.
The cameras hold about nine hours of footage that is stored in a cloud-based system.
Denver police plans to roll out cameras to the entire force throughout this year.
