Snowpack Beginning To Melt
SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Snowpack levels in Colorado's high country are still well above normal for this time of year. Warm spring weather could change that quickly.
"We're seeing temperatures in the 40s where normally we see temperatures in the 30s. Spring is in the air even up here in the mountains," said Denver Water spokesman Dave Fernandez.
"We started releasing a little extra water down the Blue River in anticipation of a strong spring runoff and a great summer and a full reservoir," said Fernandez.
The warm weather has Bob Brandle working next to rushing water two weeks early. He's breaking ice dams by hand.
"It's a little warmer this year than it has been," said Bob Brandle with the U.S. Geological Survey.
Sunny skies can be sad days at the ski resorts. It means winter is about to end.
"Last time we came here, we had to cover up, it was really windy and really cold. This time, it's great, it's awsome, we love it!" said one skier.
"It's a little bit stickier because it's a little bit slushy, but it's nice to be able to wear whatever you want and not be cold at all when you're on the lift. It's a lot more fun," said another skier.
