Small fire burns in Colorado near Lookout Mountain in Jefferson County
UPDATE: On Wednesday morning the fire had grown to more than 200 acres.
Firefighters were tackling a wildfire called the Goltra Fire near Lookout Mountain on Tuesday. The fire was burning above Highway 6 west of Golden.
In an update, Jefferson County Sheriff' Office said the fire was 10 acres in burn size, and there were no threats. On Tuesday night, Highway 6 (Clear Creek Canyon Road) was shut down in the area of the fire.
During the late afternoon, the fire was sending smoke that could be seen from Denver's Cheesman Park.
The sheriff's office believes lightning was a likely cause of the fire. Golden Gate Fire Protection District was leading the ground response. Crews had to hike to reach the flames.
The fire was burning in a remote area with limited road access. CBS News Colorado's helicopter was able to fly above the response, where there were no homes or buildings immediately in the area.
