Shredding Is The 1st StepTo Preventing Identity Theft

DENVER (CBS4)- Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the U.S. The government estimates there are 9 million cases per year nationwide.

Stopping identity theft starts at home. Fraud investigators suggest shredding all sensitive information, including junk mail and paperwork that includes:

  • Account Numbers
  • Birth Dates
  • Passwords and PINs
  • Signatures
  • Social Security Numbers

To protect your privacy, consider shredding items with names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses.
