Sheriff's Office Investigates Mailbox Explosion

SUPERIOR, Colo. (AP) -- A homemade explosive using acid, tinfoil and a water bottle blew up inside a mailbox in Superior.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office says the homeowners reported the explosion Thursday morning. The Boulder Daily Camera reports that no one was injured, but the mailbox door was found in a neighbor's yard.

The sheriff's office and Boulder and Longmont police investigated a string of homemade explosives last year. Mailboxes were damaged by small pipe-type devices and a plastic bottle containing chemicals.

Sheriff's deputies also found the remains of four explosives near a swimming pool in Niwot last summer. No arrests were made.
