LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Longmont say they are hunting for a man who sexually assaulted a 40-year-old woman in a cemetery.

The woman was walking south on Main Street at approximately 9 p.m. on Tuesday when she was approached by a man asking for help.

"He had asked her initially, when he struck up a conversation, for some directions, so he may or may not be a resident of Longmont," Longmont Police spokesman Jeff Satur said.

When she turned west down 11th Avenue, the man pulled her in to the Mountain View Cemetery and attacked her.

"She did not know the person," Satur said. "She's never met him before."

After the attack the woman walked several blocks to 11th and Francis where she called her husband, who took her to the police department.

"We're hoping somebody may have seen them walking, may have known this person," Satur said.

Police say the cemetery can be secluded and the suspect likely saw his chance to get away with a crime.

"Females should be able to walk in our community without fear, but unfortunately people sometimes take advantage of those opportunities," Satur said.
