Serial Rapist Investigation Expands Outside Colorado

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - The investigation of a suspected serial rapist in Colorado is leading to some frustrating information about prior rape allegations.

Marc O'Leary, 32, is facing multiple charges after attacks last year in Golden and Westminster. CBS4 has learned police in Washington state have now linked O'Leary to a 2008 sexual assault at an apartment in Lynnwood, Wash.

A Lynnwood woman went to police at that time saying she had been raped in her apartment by a stranger, but police didn't believe her. Instead, they cited her with making a false report.

When investigators in Colorado searched O'Leary Lakewood home in February they found a picture of that Washington woman who said she had been raped.

Police in Washington say they have now apologized to the woman and are working to make things right.

"She went through this incident, this crime, and then to have nobody believe her on top of that and now to move forward with a group of investigators who do believe her, her family can give her the support she needs," Lynnwood Police Department spokesman Steve Rider said.

O'Leary is being held on a $5 million bond.
