Sen. Bennet Supports Tax Deal, With Reservations

DENVER (AP) - U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet says he will support the compromise between the White House and Republicans on tax cuts despite reservations.

The Colorado Democrat said Wednesday that he prefers a longer extension for middle-class breaks and the elimination of the rest of the Bush-era tax cuts after one year instead of two.

Colorado's other senator, Democrat Mark Udall, has said it makes no sense to continue tax breaks for the wealthy when the debt is "out of control."

But Bennet says without action, the tax cuts will expire in less than a month, along with jobless benefits for thousands of Coloradans. He says he'll look for chances to improve the proposal.

Some congressional Democrats say the deal gives too much to the wealthy.
