Rock Slide Shuts Down Part Of Highway 24 Near Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- A rock slide blocked the westbound lane of Highway 24 west of Manitou Springs for several hours Tuesday night.
Crews with the Colorado Department of Transportation worked overnight to remove nine huge boulders that landed on the road near Cave of the Winds.
They removed the rocks and then broke them up for removal. Some of the rocks measured 10 feet wide by 10 feet high and three feet deep.
The westbound lane reopened before dawn Wednesday.
CDOT crews were back at the site Wednesday morning working to prevent future rock slides.
No vehicles were struck and no one was injured.
