Denver Police Officers Told To Prepare For Trump Visit
By Brian Maass
DENVER (CBS4) - Numerous Denver police officers say they have been told to prepare for a possible visit to Denver next Friday from Donald Trump. Several told CBS4 their days off for April 8 were canceled in preparation for a possible Trump visit to Denver.
Up to this point Trump, the Republican front runner for president, has not made any major campaign stops in Colorado since he announced he was running for president. He participated in a debate with other GOP presidential candidates in October in Boulder.
However in an interview with CBS4, Denver Police Chief Robert White said it was not clear whether Trump was actually coming to Denver. White noted that next Friday is also Opening Day for the Rockies. The police chief said he had arranged for the availability of more officers given the possibility of Trump coming combined with Opening Day.
Mayor Michael Hancock said if Trump does decide on a Denver appearance, he hoped "he will promote a more civil and peaceful environment" and "not promote violence for folks to act upon."
Neither Hancock nor White knew what venue might be used for a Trump rally if the visit comes to fruition.
