Rep. Polis Suggests Boulder Must-Dos For Each Visiting Republican

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - The 2016 run for president is already an exciting, interesting, and highly contentious one. Anything can happen. And often, the craziest of things does.

For instance, the second Republican debate, full of conservative candidates, is being held in one of Americas most liberal cities. The University of Colorado at Boulder is host, and the city is known for its cultural variety.

So, just what landmarks should the candidates be checking out while in town? Democratic Congressman Rep. Jared Polis put together a list of suggestions for each of the Republicans that he thought would best suit each candidate. And it's a pretty funny list of recommendations.

Jeb Bush: kiss the buffalo hanging on the wall in the Pearl Street Pub to catch a little luck.

Ben Carson: check out the Shambhala Center, one of only three outside Tibet, and a great place for a meditative person such as yourself.

Chris Christie: visit a dispensary. It's no secret that Christie is not a fan of legal marijuana, but why not see how things are done legally, says Polis.

Ted Cruz: if the ski resorts opened a day earlier (Loveland and A-Basin open Thursday!), Polis suggests Ted Cruz hit the slopes and try to find other Texans--they'll be wearing jeans.

Carly Fiorina: sit in on one of CU's business classes.

Lindsey Graham: spend some time at The Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center to learn about non-violent resolution (a reference to Graham's cellphone-smashing video).

Mike Huckabee: embrace gay marriage. The movement began in Boulder back in 1975, and the city has a trailblazing county clerk of their own: Clela Rorex was issuing same sex marriage licenses 40 years ago. Kim Davis who?

Rand Paul: "Let your freak flag fly." This is Boulder after all.

Marco Rubio: the high altitude can dry out you, be sure to drink lots of water, particularly that from Eldorado Springs.

Rick Santorum: simply unwelcome.

Donald Trump: our climate will do your hair no favors. If you need a professional touch, head over to Al's Barber Shop.

And for Bobby Jindal, John Kasich, and George Pataki -- the candidates participating in the first, smaller debate -- Polis suggests they grab a burger at the Dark Horse Saloon "while the real debate is happening."
