Probe Of Spill Near Parachute Focuses On Valve Box
PARACHUTE, Colo. (AP) — Oil company workers looking for the source of a liquid hydrocarbon found near Parachute Creek are focusing on a valve box for a pipeline carrying natural gas liquids away from a natural gas plant.
Department of Natural Resources spokesman Todd Hartman said Tuesday that the soil around the valve box is saturated with hydrocarbons.
Williams discovered soil contamination March 8 next to its gas plant on land owned by WPX Energy. State regulators have issued notices of alleged violation to both companies.
Water sampling from Parachute Creek hasn't detected any contamination in the creek. Williams is continuing to recover liquid hydrocarbons and impacted groundwater.
