Police Involved In Shooting And Crash Right Outside Loaf 'N Jug Gas Station In Evans
EVANS, Colo. (CBS4) -- Police were involved in a shooting and a crash that happened right outside the doors of a gas station in Evans. The crash caused major damage to the front ends of two SUVs -- and knocked over items on display outside the Loaf 'N Jug at 23rd Avenue and 32nd Street.
Greeley police say it started when officers saw a man, who was wanted on active felony warrants, leaving a home at around 2:30 p.m. They say him get into a car and later tried to pull him over near Reservoir Road and 23rd Avenue.
The suspect refused, and police say a short chase followed.
Then, the suspect crashed into the SUV at the Loaf 'N Jug. Police say he was armed with a handgun and tried to carjack someone else at the gas station.
Greeley police told the man to surrender, but they say he didn't, and that's when the suspect was shot. He died at the scene.
Investigators say the man carjacked someone else on Interstate 25 in Mead earlier in the day. His identity has not been released.
No officers or citizens were hurt.
