Police Name Suspect In Kidnapping Case
DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver have issued an arrest warrant for the suspect wanted for kidnapping an 8-year-old girl on Thursday.
Police are looking for Bret Lee Luckett Thompson, 27. They believe he kidnapped a little girl and sexually assaulted her.
The FBI has added new reward money in their effort to get a tip that leads to an arrest. The reward is now at $12,000.
The girl was abducted from the area of 475 S. Raleigh at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday and located about 90 minutes later.
The girl walked into a Diamond Shamrock convenience store at 1945 Federal Blvd. at about 3 p.m. and told the employee she had been kidnapped.
The suspect, believed to be Thompson, was described as being a white man wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. He has short brown hair and green or hazel eyes and two tattoos on his upper right arm. On the inner right arm is a tattoo of unknown letters. On the right outer arm he has a tattoo of "SS."
"I've been in this business for 26 years and (the victim) is probably one of the most remarkable victims I've ever encountered," David Fisher with Denver police said. "Her ability to recall details and relay that information to law enforcement has been nothing short of astounding; and she is a hero."
Because the victim was able to detail the tattoos, some people called police with the suspect's identity.
Police said Thompson is a transient who trims and shoes horses and hangs out typically in rural areas.
The suspect was possibly driving a 1999 white Pontiac Montana with Colorado license plate number 697-WJA or Louisiana license plate number STV-813.
The girl told officers she was playing with her friend when a white van pulled up beside them. The driver allegedly asked the children to help him put something in the van. That's when the girl told police the man took her and drove away.
"We need to get this individual in custody and move forward," Fisher said. "This type of nightmare should not happen."
The whereabouts of Thompson are not known. Anyone with information on Thompson is asked to call Denver police or Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP.
"Bret Thompson, you know what you did. We will find you wherever it may be and you will be brought to justice in Denver," Fisher said.
