Police Impersonator Suspect: 'I Am Innocent'
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4)- A man under investigation for impersonating a police officer talked to CBS4 Investigator Rick Sallinger. The police impersonation incident happened in Jefferson County in July.
The suspect in the case is a 58-year-old Centennial man. His car, a Crown Victoria, has been seized by police. Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies said his car has red, blue and amber lights installed inside, as well as a strobe light.
The man's identity is not being disclosed.
When asked if he was impersonating a police officer by CBS4 Investigator Rick Sallinger, the man replied, "No and why are you here? This is the last thing I need. I'm innocent of this and trying to prove it."
In July, someone called 911 to report seeing a suspicious vehicle trying to pull over a car driven by a woman at about 6 p.m. July 31, near Wadsworth and Bowles.
"Based on an interview with the civilian driver, he indicated he had a relationship with law enforcement and that the passenger in his vehicle that night was a deputy from the Jefferson County Detention Center," said Aurora Police Det. Bob Friel in an interview in July.

The deputy has been cleared of any wrongdoing, but is now the subject of an internal affairs investigation and remains on the job.
The suspect said he was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time, adding that he didn't have any police lights on his car or any police markings.
When told that somebody said they saw him trying to pull over a car with a woman driver, he replied, "No, never did."
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is expected to send its case to the district attorney next week. The case is not believed to be related to other police impersonation incidents in the Denver metro area.
