Officers Shoot & Kill 2 Dogs In Commerce City
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Commerce City shot and killed two dogs after they allegedly attacked a woman walking her dog.
Police were driving by the neighborhood at 60th and Newport in Commerce City just after 7 p.m. when they saw a woman who was being attacked by dogs.
The woman was walking her dog when two other dogs ran towards her and started attacking the woman and her smaller dog.
Police shot and killed the dogs that were attacking the woman.
The woman who owns the dogs told CBS4 that her dogs somehow got loose from her backyard and ran to attack the woman. The breed of the dogs has not been released.
The woman who was attacked was treated on scene for her injuries. It is unknown how she or her dog are doing.
"All of our officers are trained on responding to dog calls. Obviously it's a judgement call and it's a tough thing to do," said Commerce City Police Officer Christian Rasmussen.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave per Commerce City Police Department policy.
The Commerce City Police Department came under intense scrutiny for shooting and killing a dog in 2012. A police officer was charged with animal cruelty for shooting a dog named Chloe.
A neighbor recorded cell phone video of that shooting. The officer was later acquitted.
