1 Woman Dead, Another Hurt After Officer-Involved Shooting
ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A woman is dead and another is being treated at the hospital after an officer-involved shooting in Adams County on Thursday.
The shooting happened near the Timber Ridge apartments close to the intersection of 69th Avenue and Pecos Street. That's about two miles north of Denver's city limits, just south of Highway 36.
Adams County Sheriff Mike McIntosh said several of his deputies were checking out a suspicious vehicle in the morning. Moments later there were shots fired.
McIntosh said there were three people in the pickup truck and a female passenger pulled out a gun when two deputies approached. That's when the two deputies fired their weapons.
"It is not clear yet whether or not the female actually fired," McIntosh said.
The woman who died and the woman who was hurt were both passengers in the pickup. The driver wasn't hurt.
None of the deputies who were involved were hurt. The two who fired their weapons have been placed on leave with pay, which is standard procedure according to McIntosh.
The driver was taken in for questioning after the shooting.
The names of those involved in the shooting haven't been released.
