Biz Leaders, Pols Back Northern Colorado Reservoirs
LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) -- About 300 northern Colorado business leaders and politicians are supporting a proposal to build two reservoirs.
The backers rallied Thursday in Loveland in support of the Northern Integrated Supply Project.
It would build the Glade Reservoir and Galeton Reservoir to store about 215,000 acre feet of water from the Poudre and the South Platte rivers. An acre foot of water can serve roughly two households for a year.
Colorado congressman Cory Gardner was among those who attended. He said the project is critical for Colorado's economy.
Opponents fear building the reservoirs would dry up agricultural land and harm the Poudre River.
